When your loved ones, especially your children, are using drugs, it’s easy to be concerned. While not all people who use drugs become addicted to them, it’s a possibility. If it happens, there are things that you can do to help. First, though, you have to recognize the outward signs of addiction and perhaps accept that your child needs drug addiction treatment.

Physical Signs That Your Child Needs Drug Addiction Treatment

No matter how close you are to your children, odds are they won’t reach out to you and tell you that they’re addicted. If your child is struggling with substance abuse, they won’t be able to hide some of the many signs associated with addiction. Some of these signs you’ll see are physical and include things such as:

  • Bloodshot or Dilated Eyes
  • Nosebleeds
  • Decline in Personal Hygiene
  • Poor Coordination
  • Slurred Speech
  • Uncontrollable Shaking
  • Seizures

Behavioral And Psychological Signs That Your Child Needs Drug Addiction Treatment

Not all the signs of addiction that manifest are physical. In fact, behavioral and psychological signs can be just as telling. Behavioral signs are easier to see if you’re living with your child and include:

  • Absences from Class or Work
  • Missing Money, Prescription Drugs, or Valuables
  • Locks Doors
  • Increase in Isolation
  • Increase in Arguments
  • Increase in Use of Perfume, Incense, or Other Things to Cover the Smell
  • Changes in Close Personal Relationships

As with behavioral signs, psychological ones are easier to see when you’re living with your child. Being around your children for extensive periods of time, however, can make psychological signs obvious. Psychological signs can be things like:

  • Sudden Mood Fluctuations
  • Strange Irritability or Hyperactivity
  • Appearing Lethargic or Checked Out
  • Being Fearful or Paranoid for No Reason
