Ten Signs of Alcoholism – Self-Test

  Many people who suffer from alcoholism or have a loved one or family member that is are in denial. If they are not in denial they may truly think that there alcoholism is not as bad as it is. Here is a top ten list of questions you should ask yourself if you think you or someone you know may be suffering from the disease of alcoholism.

  1. Do you keep your drinking secretive? (hiding the amount that you drink or how often you drink)
  2. Is it common for you to feel like you have to drink to have fun or drink while you eat?
  3. Do you easily get irritated or frustrated if alcohol is not readily available?
  4. Have you lost interest in hobbies or activities that used to interest you?
  5. Has alcohol brought on negative consequences whether it is with the law, family dynamics, employment or financial problems?
  6. Are you unable to leave an alcoholic drink unfinished or not able to just have one drink?
  7. Do you avoid family members and friends in fear that they are going to approach you about your drinking?
  8. Do you make excuses to drink whether it is to celebrate something or because you are upset?
  9. Have your eating habits suffered as a result of drinking?
  10. Do you physically feel sick or off if you do not have alcohol in your system?

  If you have answered yes to any of these questions it may be time to take action. Alcoholism is a serious disease that is capable of destroying someone’s life and even be the cause of death.
