Many who struggle with opiate addiction whether it is to heroin or prescription medication want to manage their addiction with methadone or Suboxone. The truth is that while these two drugs may be effective in alleviating the cravings to do other drugs such as heroin or OxyContin they are likely to be substituting one drug for another. Methadone and Suboxone are both drugs and millions of individuals are addicted to them. In order to live a life that is free of chemical dependency an individual needs to change their thought process. This is best done by going through addiction treatment. While a detoxification unit may use certain drugs like Suboxone or similar to Suboxone to help an individual get over the physical cravings caused by addiction they are used to help make a client more comfortable during the detoxification process and not as a substitute for the substance they are addicted to. During detoxification, a client that is being administered drugs like Suboxone or naltrexone will be tapered off the drug so that they will eventually be completely drug-free. Once detoxification is completed an individual’s best chance to remain sober is to participate in addiction treatment and work on the psychological dependency on drugs and alcohol with therapists and certified addiction professionals. Methadone and Suboxone are both addictive drugs that can lead one down a similar rode as heroin or prescription drugs do. There is no short cut to overcoming addiction and substituting one drug for another drug will just open up another world of problems. The best way to overcome addiction is with the professional help that is received at an addiction treatment center.
