Course Summary
The Opiate Epidemic has become one of the most prominent public health challenges of our time, as one of the leading causes of suffering, impairment, and fatalities in the United States. Opiate Use Disorder (“addiction”) is recognized as a diagnosable and treatable illness by the healthcare treatment professionals, particularly mental health treatment professionals. It is therefore critically important that mental health treatment professionals are fully aware of the most effective tools for recognition and referral of those who suffer from Opiate Use Disorder (“addiction”) to get effective treatment that they so urgently need, so that they can get help and begin their journey on the road to recovery.
Course Objectives
For Opiate Use Disorders, participants will be able to list and describe:
- Developmental & Psychosocial Risk Factors that increase risk
- Developmental & Psychosocial Protective Factors that decrease risk
- Elements of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) protocol
- Applicable elements of Motivational Interviewing and States of Change
