Opiate addiction is a progressive disease and if not addressed quickly and appropriately can result in various health issues including death.  Many recovering opiate addicts will tell stories of their addiction beginning with drugs such as Percocet and Vicodin and eventually leading to heroin. Besides from health issues, opiate addiction can result in violent crimes. Crimes such as domestic abuse, murder and rape are commonly linked to drug addiction. An individual’s education, career or personal relationships can also suffer major consequences from opiate addiction. Once there is an addiction to Vicodin, Percocet and other prescription opiate drugs an individual will not be able to stop regardless of whatever consequences they have suffered. It is very common for people to go to opiate addiction treatment in order to stop their drug abuse. Without treatment it can be nearly impossible to overcome addiction.  Willpower and self determination is not enough to stop the downward spiral of opiate addiction. The first step of opiate addiction treatment is the detox process. The purpose of a detoxification process is to rid the body of all the toxins that are a result of chronic opiate abuse. Once detox is complete there will no longer be a physical dependency to opiates like Percocet or Oxycontin. This will allow an addict to work with therapists and certified addiction professionals on the psychological aspect of their disease. Quality treatment will expose its clients to both individual and group therapy. Both are extremely helpful when recovering from opiate addiction. Opiate addiction is a serious problem that affects many people. Opiate addiction treatment provides the hope that is necessary in order to recover from addiction. The sooner an addict gets into treatment the better chance that they have to recover.  If you or someone you love is suffering from opiate addiction there is help.
