Lou Gramm, lead singer of Foreigner, was living out his childhood fantasy of being a famous musician in the 70s and 80s. He performed in packed stadiums and sold millions of albums. However, like many others catapulted to rock stardom, that life included plenty of sex and drugs, too. He almost lost his life until he found his way to God.

Finding the Way Back to God

Gramm’s rock life included Foreigner’s chart-topping years and some solo work. And it also included plenty of drugs for about two decades. After the chaos of a party following a concert he realized that he was going down the wrong path. He said that he fell to his knees and asked God to take the plague of addiction away. God answered his plea with drug and alcohol rehab. By the grace of God, he has been clean and sober ever since.

Rock and Refuge during Turbulent Times

Life threw Gramm a big challenge five years after he gave up drugs, in the form of a brain tumor. A tumor is an ordeal for anyone, and for some might even lead to relapse into addiction. But Gramm sought treatment with the best hospitals and kept his faith in the Lord. Like in Psalms 18:2, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Gramm’s faith in God did not waver and now he is healthy. How have you handled the trials of life after getting clean? Have you felt God’s presence with you during the bad times? Comment below.
