The National Institute on Drug Abuse conducted a survey in 2009 reporting that just over half of Americans age 12 and older (51.9 percent) had used alcohol at least once in the 30 days prior to being surveyed. The number of people requiring alcohol detox and treatment continues to rise despite the consequences of alcohol use on the body.
