When people are struggling through hardship, it is difficult to imagine that there can be anything worse. But there are other people in an even worse situation. As Christians, you should help someone in need, even if you’re in a difficult situation. For a group of men in addiction recovery, they are doing all they can to help those affected by the tornados that ravaged Oklahoma in the last few weeks.
Helping Hand
About 80 men in a Salvation Army Christian recovery program are dedicating their time and effort collecting food, water and other goods to give to tornado survivors. As one of the men said, they are given a chance to give back to others. This serves as a way to make up for their sinful, self-centered past as well as improve their relationships with God. When you give your all and help others, God helps you in return. Just as in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
God Helps All
Although the men in addiction recovery have struggled in their past, they realize they are fortunate to be getting treatment. As their lives improve, they gain the strength to help those who need it. Their kindness enriches their lives, their Christian recovery and the relationship with God.
