The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that more than 38 million US adults binge drink an average of four times per month. The agency also notes that most of these people would not be classified as alcoholics; however, they will develop similar health issues such as alcoholism and have more accidents that are alcohol related. Binge drinking is most common among 18-34 year olds. It seems that young adults are using alcohol in an addictive way but only for short periods of time. They are functioning at work, school and relationships yet the binge drinking behavior is dysfunctional. This behavior may start much earlier than documented by the CDC. Above the Influence reports that 5,000 people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking. Our youth have the mentality that nothing bad will happen to them, individually. This is a terrible statistic both for young adults and those who are underage.
