Detoxification from alcohol abuse can be dangerous. The chances of staying sober after detoxification are very slim if it is not followed by alcohol rehab.
A government study was released on Thursday June 9 stating that between the years of 1998 and 2008 the number of people who entered an addiction treatment center for benzodiazepine abuse tripled.
According to the National Treatment Agency of Substance Abuse out of over 32,000 individuals who sought out treatment for prescription medication from 2009-2010 only 11 percent report that their problem lied solely in prescription drugs.
Children often get the short end of the stick when it comes to drug addiction and alcohol abuse. Parents who suffer from addiction are likely not going to be able to care for their children the way they should. Often children are taken from their homes and put in the care of the state. This could be avoided if parents who fight with addiction would get the help they needed.
Addiction to drugs and alcohol often begins in college. What starts off as innocent partying on the weekends to unwind after a long week of school work can easily turn into full blow addiction to alcohol and drugs.
Suboxone and methadone are often used by individuals who are trying to stop their addiction to opiates. The problem with drugs like suboxone and methodone and those similar is that they are also addictive and can lead one down a very similar path as addiction to other drugs.
The government/Obama administration recognizes the increasing problem with prescription drug abuse and is currently putting together a plan to get the problem under control. The premise behind the campaign is education with doctors, parents, young adults and the health care industry in general.
Addiction to drugs and alcohol does not discriminate. Lawyers, doctors, politicians… are just as susceptible to addiction then the homeless man on the street. No matter how bad an addiction it is never to late to get help and change the negative course caused by addiction.
