An Individual Treatment Plan Is A Necessity

It is not uncommon for an individual who struggles with the disease of addiction to also be plagued with depression, a bipolar disorder or some other type of mental illness. Often times the person who struggles with depression or a bipolar disorder uses their alcohol abuse and drug addiction as a form of self-medication. Without properly treating the bipolar disorder, depression or whatever other mental illness is occurring it is going to be extremely difficult to begin living a life that is free of chemical dependency. Likewise, it is going to be essential to treat the addiction as well. A dual diagnosis addiction treatment center specializes in treating individuals who suffer from both addiction in concurrence with another mental disorder. When treating two diseases such as depression and addiction it is necessary for a patient to have an individual treatment plan for them to follow. Everyone who battles with drug addiction or alcohol abuse is unique and should be treated that way. Addiction is a disease of both the brain and the body which is why it is pertinent to address the psychological and physiological aspect of the disease. Addiction treatment will address the physiological aspect of addiction by having each client go through a medically supervised detoxification. Once detoxification is complete a client will no longer suffer from physical withdrawals. This will allow them to focus all of their energy, without being distracted, on the psychological aspect of their disease during various types of therapies which include individual and group therapy as well as family treatment and relapse prevention classes. Addiction can be a very lonely place. Those who have gone to drug rehab have found comfort in knowing that they are not alone and that it is possible to recover and go onto to live a life that is free of chemical dependency.
