Sarah Harding, an Irish/English pop star from the girls group Girls Aloud, recently admitted that she has an addiction to sleeping pills. Zopiclone is a non-benzodiazipine given out in the UK for insomnia. Harding was mixing her sleeping pills with alcohol which is a lethal combination. In the states, Ambien is the most common sleeping pill prescribed by our medical profession. Ambien has side effects such as sleepwalking, hallucinations and possible amnesia. All sleep medication should be taken for a short period of time, approximately 6 weeks. When Ambien is combined with alcohol, the effects can be deadly. Most addicts struggle with sleep even after drug rehab. Their primary doctors prescribe sleeping pills thinking that it will help, yet when it comes to addiction the opposite is true. Artificial sleep inducers will only prolong your body’s’ adjustment period when trying to regain a balanced sleep cycle. It may be more advantageous to attempt relaxation techniques, exercise and holistic remedies prior to seeking artificial treatments.
