Three months after Whitney Houston’s death, individuals who are unfamiliar with the disease of addiction, are still blaming Bobby Brown for her drug addiction. Brown appeared on the Today Show in an attempt to clear his name. During the interview, he reported that Houston had been using drugs long before he did. He also stated that he did not know that she had still been struggling with drugs at the time they had interacted post divorce. Although acquiring a DUI recently, Brown reports that he continues to use alcohol and has chosen not to give it up completely. It is evident that Brown struggles with addiction, much in the same way as Houston. The fear is that he will wind up just like her. He, like most active addicts, states that he will not die from this disease. Addicts active in addiction will continue to find people who will co-sign their unhealthy behaviors until external circumstances force them to stop. Unfortunately, it was death for Houston. Brown is confronted by the interviewer about his own path of continued substance abuse. While reporting he has been clean off narcotics for 7 years, he evades the root issue. He uses the excuse of an addictive personality rather than actually eliminating all substance abuse. For addicts, any mind or mood altering addictive substances should probably be avoided.
