Sober Coaches, now available at Lakeview, provide much needed assistance for those requiring additional care as they graduate to an independent lifestyle. The non-clinical role of Sober Coach is more personal and informal, providing support with “breathing room” for clients so that they may contribute to their own wellness plan. “While Sober Coaches are most often considered babysitters for famous actors and musicians, we are removing that stigma and offering important encouragement and consultation at a critical time for people who are committed to their own recovery,” said Ami Gilland, Lakeview’s alumni coordinator. Sober Coaches provide long-term assistance to those who have completed a primary treatment program. This personal approach helps establish lifelong healthy routines under “real world” circumstances. Sober Coaching includes skill-building techniques such as motivation and encouragement, helping shape recovery goals and assisting as a bridge to the recovery community and available support resources. “There is no singular silver bullet for treating addiction,” added Roy M. Serpa, President and CEO of Lakeview Health. “Addiction is a complicated disease and therefore it is imperative that we relentlessly explore, support and innovate.”
