Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 Lakeview Health has announced the transition of Dr. Kevin Holbert to the role of associate medical director of its Jacksonville, Florida addiction treatment campus. This is the most recent of several new medical leadership positions established to advance the practice of addiction medicine at the center. The goal is to help improve the quality of the treatment programs, working to increase the likelihood of lifelong sobriety for those in their care. Dr. Holbert’s specialization in family medicine, psychiatry and addiction medicine will serve to help the center in cases that are classified as “dual diagnosis.”

Dual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis is a term used to describe patients who have been diagnosed with one or more psychiatric disorders in conjunction with addiction. This combination is more complicated to treat than alcohol or drug addiction alone and is becoming more commonly identified in evaluations of those seeking treatment. “In order to effectively treat the disease of addiction, we must recognize disorders that are closely linked and actively integrate their management into treatment, or risk dramatically increasing the risk of relapse,” stated Dr. Melissa Lee Warner, chief medical officer. “Dr. Holbert’s strong background in medicine and psychiatry, as well as his recent completion of an addiction medicine fellowship, allow us to bring a high level of expertise to the treatment of these complex cases.” Dr. Holbert is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Medicine and spent more than 20 years in the fields of medicine and psychiatry. He has completed multiple fellowships from the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry, including addiction medicine, geriatric psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. “It is an honor to be part of Lakeview Health in its mission to advance addiction treatment,” added Dr. Holbert.
